Biochemistry incorporates classes and laboratory training from several areas, including chemistry and physics, biology and math. You'll have the option of specializing in any of the related areas of chemistry, molecular biology, genetics, structural biology or medicine. While large universities often have large lecture sections and graduate assistants conducting the labs, professors teach all lectures and labs at Rowan. You'll participate in faculty-mentored lab-based research (many nationally funded), which is required of the Biochemistry degree. Rowan has one of the best-equipped undergraduate Biochemistry laboratories in the country. Much of the high-tech instrumentation is often reserved for faculty and graduate student research at larger universities. You'll have access to that instrumentation beginning freshman year. And, you'll work in a brand-new $47 million facility dedicated solely to science study and research. Rowan is located close to several biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies and biomedical labs, offering many opportunities for internships. The Biochemistry program is flexible enough to well-prepare you for graduate study in chemistry and biology, as well as for medical school and other health programs in veterinary medicine, dentistry, pharmacology or optometry. Some graduates pursue employment in pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
