Small class sizes and the opportunity to interact with faculty-that's what you'll get from Rowan's B.S. in Chemistry major. Accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS), the program includes organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and polymer chemistry. The degree is capped off with a required research experience. Chemistry majors regularly use sophisticated instruments not commonly found in undergraduate labs, including a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer and a fourier transform superconducting nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer. Rowan has one of the best-equipped undergraduate labs in the country. Such equipment is often reserved for faculty and graduate student research at larger universities, but you'll begin using it as a freshman. And, you'll work in a brand-new $47 million facility dedicated solely to science study and research. Chemists with four years of undergrad training readily find employment as developmental chemists, analytical chemists and as technical and sales representatives. Others successfully pursue graduate study in the sciences or enroll in medical school and other health programs in veterinary medicine, dentistry, pharmacology or optometry. Still, others are interested in teaching Chemistry, and pursue a Subject Matter Teaching Certificate along with the major allowing them to teach Chemistry in public schools from grades K - 12.
