Alma Lopez is a visual and public artist, born in Sinaloa, Mexico and
raised in Los Angeles, California. She has created, painted and designed
murals and digital murals in collaboration with artists and community
members of California, Nevada, Texas, and Wisconsin. Alma, a California
Arts Council Artist in Residence, was awarded a 1997 Design Excellence
in Public Art from the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department
and a 1998 COLA (City of Los Angeles) Individual Artist Grant. She is
working on a mural on the theme of desegregation of schools in the U.S.,
planned for completion this September, titled Education is a Basic Human
Right for the Angeles Mesa Library, a Los Angeles County Public Branch
Library. Alma received a BA from the University of California Santa
Barbara and a MFA from the University of California, Irvine.
