SANDA ILIESCU: Collages and Drawings Opening Reception: November 13, 2008 @ 4:30 - 6:30 pm Sanda Iliescu is an Associate Professor of Art and Architecture at the University of Virginia. Born in Romania, she came to the United States at age 15 with her mother who was a political refugee. She turned to painting, collage and drawing after earning an undergraduate degree in civil engineering and a masters in architecture at Princeton University. Widely exhibited, her work is currently represented by Vagabond Gallery in New York City. Among her professional awards are The Rome Prize and The Distinguished Artist Award of the New Jersey State Council of the Arts. Sanda will also be giving a special gallery lecture titled: The Street and the Studio: Should contemporary artists make both public art and studio-based work? |
