Variations on a Theme | More Info
12:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: Gallery West, Westby Hall

Drawing from its growing permanent collection, Rowan University Art Gallery West presents Variations on a Theme featuring works inspired by the art of the past, running now through the end of the Fall 2017 semester.

Among the selections on display, some pay homage to celebrated artists while others reconfigure and challenge the traditional canon of art history. These recent variations on established themes and well-known works of art are accompanied by illustrations of the objects they honor and critique. In the nearby installation of The Sister Chapel, the monumental portraits of Artemisia Gentileschi and Frida Kahlo were similarly inspired by earlier images. Included in Variations on a Theme are works by Dotty Attie, Elizabeth Bisbing, Marjorie Kramer, Marion Pinto, Stephanie Rauschenbusch, Susan Sills, Sylvia Sleigh, and Audrey Ushenko. The Sister Chapel, the historic collaborative installation created at the height of the women's art movement in the 1970s and brought together again for the first time since 1980 last year at Rowan, continues at RUAG West as the 40th anniversary of its premiere draws near.

Rowan University Art Gallery West is located in Westby Hall, 237 Mullica Hill Road in Glassboro, NJ. Please visit for directions and parking information. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, 12 to 4 pm, or by appointment.
