English as a Second Language Program (ESL)
Program Description
Objective
The main objective of the ESL Program is to prepare students for success in the university. The Program is designed to increase ESL students’ English language proficiency in all language skills while also focusing on the academic skills necessary for success in higher education. In addition to language and academic skills, students are given the tools to understand and feel at ease in the culture of the United States, specifically in the university setting.
Matriculated students participating in our program may receive undergraduate credits that go toward their bachelor degree.

Format
Our goal is to prepare students for success. For this reason the program is intensive. Our expectations are high as we are very focused on achieving the goal of providing you with the best language learning experience possible.Sample Schedule

Fall and Spring Semesters (15 weeks)
Day Classes
These are the most intensive classes we offer at 25 hours a week. During the fall and spring semesters, students attend classes Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. Students will focus on developing their reading and writing skills, vocabulary building, pronunciation, listening skills, speaking and fluency skills, and knowledge of U.S. culture with cross-cultural understanding.
Evening Classes
During the fall and spring semesters, students can attend evening classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 5:20 to 8:00. Students will focus on developing their reading and writing skills, vocabulary building, pronunciation, listening skills, speaking and fluency skills, and knowledge of U.S. culture with cross-cultural understanding.

Summer Enrichment Program (5 weeks)
The summer program is specifically designed for incoming freshmen and is a part of the EOF academic program. Classes are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. Students will improve their academic English skills while also learning about the expectations and culture of the university. The summer program incorporates special workshops and field trips to enhance student learning.

Rowan University at Camden is located in Camden, New Jersey, offering you the diversity of city life in the United States. Our campus is a five minute drive to Philadelphia, providing our students the richness of the most historical city in the U.S. – museums, theatres, parks, art galleries, and other cultural sites – along with the fun night life of a thriving city.
We are also conveniently located near New York City and Washington, D.C., the beach and the mountains. Students will have the opportunity to participate in class trips to these, or other, great places.
