The Rowan community is invited to a memorial service at 4:00pm Friday, October 5, in Bozorth Auditorium to honor Dr. Nathan Carb, who served tirelessly as an English professor for 52 years before retiring at the end of the 2010-11 academic year. Light refreshments and fellowship in Hollybush will follow the memorial service.

Dr. Carb passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2012 after a long illness. Please gather with us to celebrate the life and accomplishments of an extraordinary individual who devoted his life to teaching literature and serving as an inspiration for his students, friends, family, and colleagues.

Dr. Carb had the distinction of becoming the youngest full professor in a New Jersey state college at the age of 33, serving as English Department chairman for 20 years from 1983 to 2003, and dedicating himself to superb teaching for 52 years before retiring in May 2011. His teaching specialties included Shakespeare, Modern European Literature, American Drama, and British literature.

College of Science & Mathematics and Dept of Computer Science presents the Dean's Distinguished Speaker Series featuring Raymond Blum, Site Reliability Engineer at Google, Inc. His lecture, Forged not Broken - How Google Recognizes the Value of Mistakes recognizes that blame is too often used to assign punitive rather than truly corrective measures. In a culture based on competence and method, great value can be derived from thorough post mortem analysis and follow up. Raymond will discuss a strategy for learning from mistakes and applying this knowledge to minimize risk in the long term.

Raymond Blum leads a team of Site Reliability Engineers charged with keeping Google's and its users' data safe and durable. Before Google, he ran a hosting company and taught Computer Science after two decades in the financial and media industries. In his meager spare time, he indulges his interests in robotics and home automation and reads too much science fiction.

Inspired by her journal writings, her mother, Judy, has set out to realize her daughter?s dream of changing lives. Interviews from the family and friends of Melissa express the confusion, frustration, and desire to help their beloved friend, daughter, and sister. Dr. Alexander Higgins was born in Philadelphia in 1944. Attended Temple University '65; Temple School of Medicine '69 Board Certified in Family Medicine 1976 to the present Fellow of the American Academy Family Physicians (FAAFP). Dr. Higgins has had a Family Practice from 1972-2012; Initially as a solo practitioner, then as head of Heights Primary Care; and then as a physician in Advocare-Heights Primary Care, in Haddon Heights, NJ. He has also been a Clinical Instructor in the Dept of Family Practice at Cooper University Hospital. He travels extensively to many countries in Europe, Asia, Great Britain and Central America and Mexico speaking at church conferences. Dr. Higgins is married, has two daughters and two grandchildren and has lived in Haddon Heights since 1969.
