The Department of Music presents its inaugural Rowan Clarinet Day, an all-day event of concerts, clinics and master class, designed for professionals, amateurs, students, music educators and clarinet-enthusiasts of all ages and stages.

Rowan Clarinet Day 2012 is hosted by Rowan clarinet faculty members Rie Suzuki and Joshua Kovach. The featured artists and guests include Daniel Gilbert, Associate Professor at University of Michigan and a former member of The Cleveland Orchestra; pianist Donna Lee, Associate Professor at Kent State University; David Gould, Vandoren Artistic Advisor and Product Specialist; Mark Jacobi, Clarinet Repair Technician, and The Rowan Clarinet Quartet (Jessica Smith; Michael Gruender; Patrick Dolan; Joseph Allen). Additionally, there will be clarinet exhibits and try-outs by Buffet Crampon, Vandoren and Hammer Woodwinds.

Collegium Musicum?s Fall 2012 concert - ILLUMINATION: Medieval & Renaissance Light - features European music of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance, highlighted in the magnificent art of illuminated manuscripts. The music will be performed on early consort instruments (lute, guitar, recorder, crumhorn, virginal, violin, harp, handbell and various percussion). Directed and choreographed by faculty member Melanie Stewart, this new piece creates a dance competition game show, modeled after current reality TV series, which is a fast-paced, comic and highly-interactive experience where the audience is complicit in a satiric journey leading to the ultimate destruction of contestants whose lust for fame is weighed against their will to live.
