Academic Programs and Requirements Academic Majors, Minors and Concentrations The University offers 42 undergraduate majors among six academic colleges (Business, Communication, Education, Engineering, Fine & Performing Arts, and Liberal Arts & Sciences) Outllines the requirements for each major General Education is designed to fulfill the aim of a liberal education: breadth of knowledge and balance of judgment. Courses in General Education are designed to create an interest in cultural and intellectual activities that will last throughout life. Because one of the fundamental principles of a general education curriculum is to experience a variety of disciplines, students are required to take courses from five areas: Communications, Science/Mathematics, Social & Behavioral Sciences, History/Humanities/Language, and Artistic & Creative. An equivalency is a determination by both the community college and the university that a specific course(s) at one institution is equivalent in content and credit to a specific course(s) at the other institution. By comparing equivalencies, official transcripts can be easily evaluated to grant transfer credit, which apply toward degree requirements at Rowan University. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain academic advising before registering for courses to assure appropriate progress toward meeting degree requirements. Undeclared students should contact the Career and Academic Planning Center for advisement. All other matriculated students should contact the department of their academic major.
