Job/Internship Search Process Getting a good job is, in itself, a job – a job that requires you to explore your interests, values, skills, likes/dislikes, all in an effort to better understand what you want. It will also enable you to set career goals. Those goals will help you focus on the job opportunities that are right for you. Review the job search process and start working on your self-assessment, resume, cover letter, interviewing skills and your career success. Job/Internship Search Techniques Your plan of action will include a variety of job search techniques. Resume/Cover Letter Development The CAP Center would like to assist you in designing a dynamite resume and cover letter. The style that you choose needs to be the one that best represents who you are to the employer. These guides will assist you in formatting your resume and cover letter. Interviewing Skills An interview gives the prospective employer an opportunity to meet you face to face in order to get a first hand impression of you as a person. The interviewer is usually interested in how well you relate to others, your communication skills, your ability to respond to questions about yourself and your experiences. The interview also gives the employer an opportunity to assess how well you would work with other employees and with the company's clients or customers. Salary Information Job Search Compensation Center in addition to giving salary information, this site provides negotiation strategies, salary surveys, and more research to show you how much you should be paid. Salary.com will ask you to choose a job category and location and it will create a salary report for you. Also check out the section about "salary news" for current job searching information. The Salary Calculator use this calculator to compare the cost of living in hundreds of US and International cities. Salary Information from JobSmart has a quick guide to salary surveys. Online Resources EXPERIENCE Search for full-time, part-time, summer, and internship positions. Have your resume critiqued and posted in the electronic resume bank.
