The Rowan University Center for Addiction Studies has now become the Center for Addiction Studies & Awareness. We are excited to be a part of the Division of Student Affairs and look forward to working more closely with students and the University!
Click here for information on the Alcohol-Wise online course required for all new freshmen students. A letter was included in all orientation packets for both parents and students.
The Center prides itself on serving the Rowan Community. Students are encouraged to contact us if they feel they have a problem with substance use. Available treatment includes:
- Intakes/Assessments
- Individual Counseling
- Relapse Prevention
- Saturday Educational Classes
Those seeking help for concerns not related to substance use can contact either Counseling and Psychological Services (856-256-4222) or the Student Health Center (856-256-4333).
The Center is involved in many activities on the Rowan campus. These initiatives include:
- Twelve Step meetings are held on campus weekly. These meetings are designed for individuals who want to overcome their problems with alcohol, other drugs, or for concerns not related to drugs or alcohol.
- HERO Campaign, which encourages students to have a designated driver and establishments where alcohol is served to offer free soft drinks to the driver.
- Creation and dissemination of educational resources on substance use and other prevention activities
- Campus alcohol prevention activities
- The New Jersey Department of Education Social Norms Project. This project uses the social norms approach to reduce substance use in several New Jersey high schools and bullying in New Jersey middle schools
- StudentCare, a peer mentoring group open to all students
The Center for Addiction Studies & Awareness is continuing to serve as the host institution for the New Jersey Higher Education Consortium (NJHEC). Founded in 1987, the NJHEC has grown from an original group of 16 colleges into a network involving over 40 colleges and universities. The Consortium administers statewide prevention projects to address alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and abuse. |
The Division of Student Affairs is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment by promoting legal and responsible life style choices concerning the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. It is expected that students will make choices based upon personal values and social responsibility. This will be accomplished by engaging students in positive activities that build community, enhance learning, and facilitate growth.
