In this week’s issue we will discuss “ House ties minimum wage, Iraq war spending ”

WASHINGTON , March 9 (UPI) -- U.S. House of Representative leaders have tied legislation raising the minimum wage to an emergency Iraq war spending bill, reports said.

The war provision includes a timetable for a 2008 troop pullout from Iraq.

The new effort to break the wage logjam, a top Democratic priority stalled since February, was said to raise the minimum to $7.25 an hour from $5.15 over two years and include $1.3 billion in tax breaks for restaurants and other businesses.

Hoping for a persuasive move for the liberal vote, leaders added the wage provision to the $105 billion war package, The Washington Post said.

It also sets a withdrawal timeline that would require an end to combat operations by August of next year.

The U.S. Senate has also passed a minimum-wage bill, but added some $8.3 billion in tax breaks, the Post said. That difference needs to be worked out in House-Senate conferences.

The Iraq measure's prospects were said to be uncertain. But, a spokesman for Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky told the Post there was little doubt a minimum wage increase would be passed before the end of spring.

HR Rotational Intern

Job Summary  
Avis Budget Car Rental, LLC, formerly Cendant Car Rental Group, is searching for an year-long intern to join our Human Resources department based in Parsippany, NJ.  This position contributes to the company's success by assisting the Human Resources department in different areas such as Employee Loyalty, Field HR, Corporate Staffing, and Generalist on a rotational basis.  

Essential Duties and

Responsibilities - See disclaimer below for further information. The essential duties and responsibilities as well as knowledge, skills and abilities include but are not limited to the following:
 
Employee Loyalty:

• Handle administration of performance recognition program, including printing certificates and access codes
• Develop and run scheduled reports that analyze recognition program usage
• Assist in development of employee satisfaction survey and analyze Action Planning Processes from field locations

Field HR:

• Enhance Job Descriptions to be OFCCP compliant and more attractive to external candidates
• Assist with the development of College Recruiting Strategy, by researching and contacting colleges and creating an events calendar
• Assist with the administration of Annual driver's license checks  
• Weekly job postings 

Corporate Staffing:

• Creation and distribution of weekly job postings report
• Learn specific recruiting practices, including sourcing resumes, phone screens, and in person interviews
• Partner with staffing to develop and track quarterly recruitment strategy
• Identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices within recruitment

Generalist:

• Performance Management Process - interface with Compensation department to support WHQ in rolling out Common Review Date (CRD)
• On-Site Events (Kid's Day, Employee Appreciation Picnic)
• Ad-hoc projects

Successful candidate will possess the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:      

• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing 
• Excellent time management, planning and organization skills
• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
• and act with a sense of urgency
• Contribute individually with minimal supervision and as part of a team
• Superior problem solving skills - must be resourceful and creative with solutions
• Solid PC skills including knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
• Must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate / graduate program, with a concentration in human resources, business or psychology preferred
• Current Cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher
• Must be available to work at least 20 hours per week during semesters
• Must be available to work 30-35hrs during the summer and breaks
