Meeting Minutes

3.1. None

4. Old Business

4.1. Meetings will be changed to twice a month. The first meeting will consist of only the EBoard and will take place on the first Tuesday of every month in the Academic Success Center at 5pm. The second meeting will consist of all members and will take place on the third Tuesday of every month at 5pm in the same location.

4.2. Rowan VSO website needs to be updated.

4.2.1. Secretary needs to contact Steve in IT or John Woodruff for permissions.

4.3. Monthly minutes need to be turned in to the SGA Vice President.

4.4. We need to complete a minimum of four service projects per school year.

4.4.1. The main concerns of the members include assisting homeless veterans, veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and general Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.

4.4.2. We will contact the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service Center for ideas.

4.4.3. Ideas for this year include:

4.4.3.1. Have members in uniform visit the school’s daycare center to draw pictures with the children for soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

4.4.3.2. Members could participate in Operation Stand Down.

4.4.3.3. Members could assist the van that drives around and picks up homeless veterans for transportation to the veteran’s center.

4.4.3.4. We could continue the raffle from last year, which was a success.

4.4.3.5. We could also continue the cell phones for soldiers drive.

4.4.3.6. A carnival type event was also discussed.

4.5. An attendance roster needs to be accomplished every meeting.

4.6. The treasurer will establish an account with SGA for fundraising.

5. New Business

5.1. A Facebook page will be created for the organization to better communicate with members and to help promote the group.

5.2. The club is interested in becoming involved with homecoming. We need to brainstorm ideas for this.

5.3. November 11th is Veteran’s Day. The VSO has the ability to decorate display cases within the library.

5.4. New members need to be contacted.

5.5. The group is interested in participating in the club orientation event in the Student Center.

5.6. The group needs to fundraise.

5.6.1. A 50/50 raffle drawing was proposed and well received. The cost to the club would be very little. The drawing itself would create money for an incentive prize and money for the group.

5.6.1.1. We could sell tickets at football and basketball games.

5.6.1.2. We could set up a booth in the Student Center to sell tickets.

5.6.1.3. The group could possibly piggy back ticket sales at other events.

5.7. Rowan University President did not pass the Yellow Ribbon Program at Rowan University. This program provides much needed funding to veterans attending the school. The club is interested in the reasoning behind the decision, and if it can be overturned.

6. Adjournment

6.1. Next meeting will be 15 Sep 09 at 1700 in the Academic Success Center.
