Mac OS X Users |
Computers running Mac OS X on the Rowan Network are required to have at least OS X 10.3 ("Panther") installed. Specific version requirements are as follows:
- Panther 10.3.9 [113MB download]
- Tiger 10.4.11 [325MB download]
- Leopard 10.5.5 [600MB download]
- Snow Leopard 10.6
There are no antivirus or antispyware requirements for Mac OS X but still need to be scanned so that both the wireless network card and the wired ethernet card are registered.
Difficulty connecting to RowanWPA (OS X Tiger 10.5 and above)
A workaround has been found for Mac users that are experiencing difficulty connecting and reconnecting to RowanWPA.Users must disable the Airport Helper in their menu bar with the following steps:
- Go to the Apple Menu and select System Preferences.
- Click Network.
- Click on your Airport Card in the list.
- Uncheck Show Airport Status in Menu Bar.
- Close System Preferences.
Users experience difficulties because Apple's Airport Menu Bar helper attempts to reconnect too frequently and gets locked out from the authentication server. Disabling the helper from the Menu Bar allows authentication to proceed normally.
This problem occurs in all versions of OS X 10.5 except 10.5.5; it may be fixed in OS X 10.6 but this has not yet been confirmed. Other colleges and universities running WPA Enterprise have the same issue. Apple has acknowledged the problem and that they've been working on fixing it.
