Hoisted by their own petard: HRM as a force for positive social change
The purpose of this paper is to critically evaluate the criticisms of human resource management. The allegation that HRM is a technique of worker control receives strong support based on an analysis of the extreme right-wing public policy stance of its largest professional organization, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). However, I shall demonstrate that, like scientific management, there is a body of knowledge at the core of HRM which can be used for the betterment of workers.
