All governmental programs are under scrutiny and subject to allocation reductions. Fire departments must ensure that they have the necessary resources to support their mission critical activities of saving lives, conserving property, and protecting the environment. This study examined management practices in contemporary fire departments. The findings of the study indicate that the financial management strategies of fire departments have become proactive and that fire departments must diversify their revenue and funding sources in the interest of ensuring organizational survival and the capacity to provide services effectively and efficiently to their stakeholders.
