A Comparison of the Financial Characteristics of Business Firms in NAFTA Countries

Countries Previous studies have compared the economic, political, social, and cultural characteristics of the NAFTA countries. However, there are no existing studies comparing the financial characteristics of firms in the NAFTA countries. The objective of this study is to fill this void by comparing the financial characteristics of U.S., Canadian, and Mexican business firms. Our findings indicate that, although the financial characteristics of U.S. business firms and Canadian business firms are not significantly different, there are significant differences between the financial characteristic of Mexican business firms and the financial characteristics of U.S. and Canadian business firms and the financial characteristics of U.S. and Canadian business firms.
