Reading & Demographic Profile of Acctg Std Including Gender Characteristics: A Descriptive Study
Reading is a key, but often overlooked, part of the teaching/learning process. As a part of their ongoing work to improve this process, faculty members at a regional university obtained a demographic profile of 235 students enrolled in sophomore, junior and senior accounting courses and then measured their reading abilities using the Nelson-Denny Reading Test. The study results indicated (1) only minor differences between the male and female students and (2) statistically significant differences in students' reading abilities as correlated with various demographics. Understanding these differences can be useful to faculty members in enhancing the teaching/learning process.
