A Framework for Development of an ESS for Audit Firm Client Engagement Decisions
Expert systems technology has been used to support all the major phases of auditing except pre-engagement activities, during which an analysis of risk must be performed for potential clients. This client engagement risk analysis becomes increasingly important as litigation involving the risk analysis becomes increasingly important as litigation involving the audit firm becomes more prevalent. This paper reviews the literature on client engagement risk analysis and the use of expert systems technology in accounting/auditing. It then proposes a framework for the creation of a knowledge-based system that could support the client engagement decision.
