The Impact of Computer Networking on Business Organizations

The purpose of this spring 1995 study was to gain an understanding of the impact on organizational behavior of the implementation of the impact on organizational behavior of the implementation of a local area network (LAN) within an organization. Survey subjects were from a variety of business organizations that previously installed such a network. Each participant in the survey had job responsibilities that involved frequent use of the LAN. The survey population of 475 subjects responded to a series of 41 questions concerning how the implementation of a LAN had changed individual, group, and organizational behavior. The findings of this study reveal a number of behavioral dimensions that should be considered during the planning and implementation of a LAN.
