Export Performance: A Critical Analysis of its Effects and Uses in Diversification
Corporate diversification has been a widely studied topic within the strategic management literature (Dess, Gupta, Hennart, & Hill, 1995). However, little consensus exist on exactly what impact diversification has on an organization. In an attempt to investigate the diversification construct, we will focus our attention on theory of exportation. While the theory of exportation has received a great deal of attention in the marketing literature (Katsikeas, Leonidou, & Morgan, 2000), it has been virtually ignored by strategy scholars. The present study seeks to investigate the realtionship been exportation and diversification. In particular, we will investigate the relationship among exportation and product diversification, international diversification, firm size, R&D intensity, and industry effects.
