Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Application Utilization of SME's: Patterns, Practices and Perspectives, A Status Report
ERP technological software systems integrate and automate the internal operations of an entity. This study reviews the adoption of ERP from a survey of 234 US small and medium sized enterprises (SME's). SME's in varying sectors of business. It seeks to scan which ERP technologies SME's adopt and why. Empirical observations of ERP used in organizations suggest that the level of ERP investment and the approaches to justify such investments are contingent upon the role ERP plays in the organizational context . Preliminary results of an empirical investigation of ERP investments show not only that such expenditures are limited to those deemed most immediately necessary, because of the constraints of operating cost pressures, concerns for customer's growth and retention, and commoditization of their products and services.
