The Saturday Morning Art (smART) program is a non-profit community art program serving the families of SouthernNew Jersey. Art activities offered for children in grades K-12 include: drawing and painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media discoveries for younger ages. Teacher candidates enrolled in Rowan University’s Art and Education degree programs are responsible for the planning and instruction of smART classes. Art Education faculty from the College of Fine & Performing Arts supervise all sessions offering their expertise to teacher candidates on their preparation and instructional practices. For nearly 20 years, the smART program has fostered positive experiences in art for children and their parents while providing future art teachers with an opportunity to participate in community outreach. The smART program augments the greater mission of Rowan University, to prepare students for their careers and their lives by fostering knowledge through study, responsibility through service, and character through challenge. |
