Excellence Award Recipients Named
Congratulations to the students earning this year’s excellence awards. Award recipients include: Alexa DiGaetano, Anthony J. Fulginiti Award for Excellence in Public Relations; Rhyan Truett, Litwin Family Medallion for Excellence in Strategic Public Relations Writing; Amy Rosenberger, Anne Sceia Klein Professional Advisor Medallion for Outstanding Professionalism; Rachel James, Hal Vogel Award for Excellence in Advertising; Matthew Costanzo, Donald Bagin Graduate Public Relations Award; Stephanie Russo; Craig Monroe Scholarship.
Ad Major Wins Ad Club Scholarship Honors
Congratulations to Advertising major Sofia Piro for earning a $2500 award in the 2013 Philly’s Future Scholarship program sponsored by the Philly Ad Club. In addition the award includes an internship at a major Philadelphia company or agency.The Philly Ad Club’s scholarship program acknowledges students “who represent the future and encourage them to pursue their careers in Philadelphia.” The scholarship money is contributed by the member agencies and companies of the Philly Ad Club.
Rowan PRSSA Honored: PRaction Named Outstanding Firm in the Nation
Rowan's chapter of the Public Relations Student Society America won two Teahan National Chapter Awards at the PRSSA National Conference in San Francisco. The first award, Outstanding Student Firm in the Nation was presented to Mike Moeller, current PRaction President, for work completed during the last school year. The firm served nine clients--all pro bono providing media relations, research, collateral materials and special events planning.
The second award -- in the Chapter Award Competition -- was presented to Diana DiNapoli, current vice president of ethics, advocacy and philanthropy. Rowan PRSSA received the Best Chapter Award for Community Service conducted during the last school year. Our chapter participated in many on and off campus service opportunities garnering this award. In addition to receiving two national awards, Rowan presented awards to four chapters for their participation in our annual National Organ Donor Awareness Competition.
Rowan PRSSA has won more Outstanding Chapter in the Nation awards (eight) than any of the nation’s other 300 chapters. Congratulations to these outstanding, hard-working students.
Get Involved with PRSSA and Ad Club
Meetings for PRSSA and Ad Club are held weekly. All interested students are invited and encouraged to join and get involved. Meeting announcements will be posted in Bozorth and made in classes. Need more info? Ask any faculty member or stop by the PR/Advertising office in Bozorth.
Planning to take Internship?
PR and Ad majors planning to take Internship need to have met the prerequisite requirements and get the approval of an advisor before registering for Internship. Review the requirements and get the forms you need to complete on the undergraduate majors page here.
Looking for an Internship?
A number of organizations are seeking interns. Check the internship posting board in Bozorth Hall or ask in the PR/Advertising office about open and upcoming opportunities.

Seniors: Interested in Graduate School?
Now is the time to learn more about and apply to Rowan's M.A. in P.R. program. Students who attend full-time can complete the program in only one year. And, many seniors can get a head start by enrolling in a graduate course during senior year. Learn more about the program here. Questions? E-mail Professor Moore.

PR Students Working with Local Groups
Senior PR planning students were busier than ever last year -- taking on a record nine projects this semester. PR plans were developed for Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club, Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, The Midland School, Ambassador Christian Academy, Newman Center, Cheer Up (Leukemia Association), Image and Attitude (support for women returning to the workplace), Northeast Regional Employment and Training Association and FamCare. Project suggestions for the 2012-2013 classes are being reviewed now.

Five Rowan Ad Students Earned AWNY Scholarships
Five Rowan University advertising students have earned a total of $4,000 in scholarships from the Advertising Women of New York (AWNY). Rowan University was one of eight schools in the nation with students recognized by AWNY this year. Rowan students earning $1,000 scholarships include Adam Cohen, Sean Logue and Alma Aguilera. Two $500 scholarship winners include Regina Barber and Steve Jones. Congratulations to all!
Major Changes: Advertising
Students in the Advertising major and Advertising minor are no longer required to complete the courses Print Media Copywriting and Electronic Copywriting. These required courses have been replaced with the new required courses Advertising Copywriting and Account Planning (or Portfolio Preparation with permission of the instructor).
Students who have already completed both Print Media Copywriting and Electronic Copywriting do not need to take the new courses. Students have already completed one of the previously required copywriting courses do not need to take Advertising Copywriting and should take Account Planning (or Portfolio Preparation with permission of the instructor) to fulfill these requirements. Rowan PR Program Earns CEPR Designation from PRSA
The Rowan University Public Relations program has earned the designation Certified in Education for Public Relations (CEPR) from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The certification was awarded at PRSA’s national conference in Washington, D.C. last year. Rowan’s program was originally certified in 2004. Certified institutions are reevaluated for certification every six years. About 30 public relations programs at universities and colleges worldwide have earned the CEPR designation.
