CHSS in the Community
Liberal Arts and Sciences Institute
The Liberal Arts and Sciences Institute for Research and Community Service, founded at Rowan University in 1993, serves to enhance faculty research and foster partnerships with local communities. The Institute strives to promote a campus culture among faculty and students that revolves around civic responsibility and community engagement. The Institute is a coordinating office for projects involving service to the region, state, and nation. The LAS Institute's mission includes: 1) identifying, encouraging, and facilitating research and community service that draw upon the knowledge, skills, and imagination of the CHSS faculty, with university-wide collaboration welcome; and 2) providing professional services to assist in problem-solving and fulfilling specific training/technical assistance needs of organizations and social services agencies in the region and state. To this end, the Institute works hand in hand with community groups and leaders to improve the quality of life for New Jersey residents.
Internships provide students with the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills to hands-on experiences in their field of study. CHSS values the integration of internships into undergraduate education. Information for students and employers can be found on our Internships page.
