Geography & Environment: NJ Geography Bee

New Jersey Geography Bee

The New Jersey State Bee is set for Friday, April 5, 2013 at Rowan University, 201 Mullica Hill Road, in Glassboro. You should report to Eynon Ballroom, in the Student Center.

Schedule:

9:30 am to 10:30 am: Check-In
Enyon Ballroom Lobby
10:45 am: Welcome
Enyon Ballroom
11:15 am: Preliminary Round
Chamberlain Student Center, as assigned
1:30 pm: Final Round
Enyon Ballroom

Getting There:
Directions to Rowan University can be located at http://www.rowan.edu/map/directions.html. A campus map is available online at http://www.rowan.edu/map/print/RUcampusmap.pdf. Please park in Lots C, D, and M-1. Volunteers offering direction assistance will be near designated parking lots and around the Chamberlain Student Center area. Allow ample time for travel. Reliable traffic information can be found on 1060 AM and 101.5 FM radio stations.

Procedure for Competition:

Participants are divided into five randomly selected groups. There will be one practice round and eight regular rounds of questions. All answers in this round are oral. The top ten students overall advance to the final round. These ten students may advance automatically due to high score, or may need to compete in a tiebreaker round. Finals are by elimination, and include oral, written, and identification questions. Be sure to read the State Bee guidelines included with this letter.

Prizes:

The state champion will receive $100, a state champion certificate, a DVD collection of National Geographic Magazines from the National Geographic Society, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the finals in May. The second place contestant will receive $75, a certificate, and a DVD collection of National Geographic Magazines from the National Geographic Society. The third place contestant will receive $50, a certificate, and a DVD collection of National Geographic Magazines from the National Geographic Society as well. All Bee participants receive a t-shirt and certificate recognizing their accomplishments following the final round.
