Declaration of Major in Sociology
Admission to the sociology program is restricted to those students who have 1) completed at least one lower-level sociology course with a grade of at least C or a 2.0 overall G.P.A. in Sociology, and 2) completed all Basic Skills courses and College Composition I. Seniors (90 or more semester hours) may declare Sociology their major if they have completed 9 semester hours in Sociology, including Introduction to Sociology.
Interested students who have satisfied these criteria MUST officially declare himself or herself as a sociology major with the Center for Academic Advising & Exploration (CAAdE); otherwise, materials relevant to his or her status at the college will not be transmitted to the Sociology Department. It is also important to officially register so that the number of student representatives from the department to the Student Government can be determined.
Sociology/Early Childhood Specialization
We are happy to have early childhood majors with sociology as their specialization. It is highly recommended that early childhood majors select an advisor in the Sociology Department as well as the Education Department.
