The Production track blends practical, hands-on learning with a firm grounding in the aesthetics, history and craft of media production. The Critical Studies track blends practical research and writing skills with the study of the history, evolution and business practices of the electronic media.

Students in the Department of Radio, Television and Film engage, learn and achieve. Rowan productions have won over 50 local, regional, and national awards since 1990.

The department facilities include: two production studios (a three camera television studio with dedicated news and talk show sets; and a film /video shooting stage); an equipment room which houses both video (DVC Pro and Mini-DV) and 16mm film cameras; and a variety of audio, lighting and grip equipment; three post production labs with more than 30 non-linear editing systems including AVID, Premiere, and Final Cut Pro editing software; three audio production labs and a 130-seat screening theater with a collection of classic, foreign and contemporary films, and television programs on DVD.

Our faculty are active media producers and scholars whose works have won BEA, Cine and Emmy Awards and have been screened at a wide range of media festivals. Faculty scholarship and research have been published by prominent journals and academic publishers. The faculty are highly dedicated and talented individuals who work closely with the students, providing appropriate guidance and support.

Our students learn and achieve while at Rowan. Beginning as early as freshman year, students can join and become active in extracurricular activities: members of Cinema Workshop, the student filmmaking organization; RTN –the Rowan Television Network, the on-campus student run cable television channel; and Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS -FM, the university’s broadcast radio station.

Rowan University is ideally located in South New Jersey between two major media markets: one half hour from Philadelphia, and two hours from New York City. Juniors and seniors with more than 75 credit hours can take advantage of wide range of internship opportunities. Rowan students have interned at a variety of broadcast and cable networks and channels including A & E, Comcast Sports Net, ESPN, MTV/VH1, NBC, NY1 News, The Discovery Channel, The History Channel, and The Travel Channel; with programs such as America's Most Wanted, ER, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and The Late Show with David Letterman; with many production companies including Banyan Productions, Center City Film and Video, Lee Daniels Productions, Lifetime Studios, NASDAC Productions, NFL Films, Pennebaker Hegedus Films, SBK Pictures, Shooters Post & Transfer, The Onion, Videosmith, and The Cannes Film Festival, The Greater Philadelphia Student Film Festival, The New Jersey Film Commission, The Philadelphia Film Office; and a wide range of New Jersey and Philadelphia cable and broadcast television and radio stations.
