July 17-21, 2016
The Rowan Summer Music Camp offers students in grades seven through twelve the opportunity to study with some of the region’s finest instrumental, choral and orchestral educators and performers. During this dynamic five-day camp, students participate in large and small ensembles, experience challenging quality repertoire, and have lessons with world-class faculty. Participants develop their musicianship and improve their technical abilities as they perform in master classes, attend music theory sessions, and see recitals from guest artists.
Joseph Higgins, the Director of Bands at Rowan University, conducts the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. As a winner of a National Band Association conducting competition, he was recently invited to perform with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band. He serves as a guest conductor with outstanding high school and collegiate ensembles throughout the country. Higgins is an avid supporter of composition projects and frequently collaborates with young composers in creating and premiering new works. He began his teaching career working with middle and high school instrumental programs in Gwinnett County, Georgia. His professional affiliations include Pi Kappa Lambda (National Music Honor Society), the College Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, the National Association for Music Education, and he is an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Higgins received a degree in music education from the University of Georgia and graduate degrees in conducting from Northwestern University where he studied with Mallory Thompson.
