Clinic brings new service to dance students

Following the continued growth of the dance program at Rowan University, this semester has welcomed an addition to the services provided by the Wellness Center at Rowan University with the start of a Dance Medicine Clinic.

Through the work of Dr. Saj Surve (School of Osteopathic Medicine) and Scott Woodside (Wellness Center director), the on-campus clinic is offered to dance students every fourth Friday from 1-4 pm in the newly-opened Wellness Center facilities on the university's main campus.

"We envision this clinic as the beginning of a dynamic relationship with the School of Osteopathic Medicine that will focus on not only dance but all performing arts," says Melanie Stewart, professor of dance and Associate Dean for the College of Performing Arts.

The program began earlier this semester, with Dr. Surve offering a series of 15-minute sessions to treat dance-related injuries throughout the afternoon. AS the service grows, there are plans to create an electronic sign-up system and to increase sessions to include other performing arts disciplines as well.

Currently, students sign up for appointments in the dance program's offices in Memorial Hall. The Wellness Center is located in Winans Hall on the campus of Rowan University, 201 Mullica Hill Road in Glassboro. More information on the center is available by calling (856) 256-4333.
