Frequently Asked Questions Listed below are common questions concerning the Summer Semester. Directions and several handy maps are available on the Rowan University website. You will also find information on this site about area public transportation. Where do I park? All students taking summer courses throughout the five sessions will need a Permit in order to park on-campus. The fee for parking is $40.00. With fewer students on campus, parking close to courses is virtually assured. For more information on purchasing a Permit, please visit the office of Public Safety. Where can I find food? The Dining Services Staff at Rowan University, located in the Student Center, offers several dining options for students including salads, wraps, grill and fryer selections, fresh fruits, pasta, desserts, and much more. If the meal selections within the Student Center don’t satisfy your food cravings, there are several eating establishments just a few blocks away from campus on Delsea Drive. Go east on Bowe Boulevard to Route 47 (Delsea Drive) and north to Italian Affair, Terra Nova, Peking Buffet, SaladWorks Café, Golden Dragon, and Pizza Hut. If you go south on Delsea Drive, you will find a Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Tokyo Mandarin, and PB’s Diner. There are also several shopping marts that can be found Delsea Drive including CVS, Kmart, Big Lots, and Staples. How do I get a RowanCard? (ID?) The RowanCard is the official photo identification of the University. Among other things, RowanCard holders are entitled to Rec Center access and Campbell Library borrowing privileges. Students can visit the Information Desk, located on the main floor of the Student Center, get their picture taken and pick up their RowanCard. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. How do I access the computers on the Rowan University campus? Once you register for courses, you will be issued a campus portal login id and password by the computer support desk – you can use that information to log on to the computers around campus or to get your Rowan University email. Where can I buy books and other items? The Rowan University Bookstore is open Monday - Thursday, 9:00 A.M.-7:00 P.M. Friday, 9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. Saturday, 11:00A.M.-3:00P.M . Books can also be purchased anytime online. In addition, there are several shopping marts just a few blocks away from campus on Delsea Drive. Where can I find an ATM? An ATM is located in the Student Center on the second floor. How do I pay for summer classes? For information regarding payment methods and financial aid, visit the Bursar’s Office website. Are the different sessions considered different semesters? No, all of the five summer session options are combined in the eyes of the University and are considered one semester. How do I register for summer courses as a non-matriculated student? To view Summer 2008 Semester course offerings, please visit the Rowan University Section Tally and Select Term “Summer 2008”. From there you will be able to narrow your search by subject to find the courses that you’d like to take. You can also download and view the entire Summer 2008 Schedule of Courses. The registration process can be tricky for visiting students not familiar with navigating our Student Self-Service system, so we have provided you with an easy step-by-step guide on how to do so. (PDF coming soon!) If I plan to transfer credits earned through Rowan University to my primary college/university, what should I do? Before enrolling in RU classes, you should check with both the Rowan University Office of the Registrar as well as the Registrar’s Office of your primary college/university for their policies on transferring credits. What if I miss a few of the class sessions? – will that be a problem? Yes, every class session of a summer course is equivalent to a week of class in a normal semester – because 15 weeks of information is condensed into 3-8 weeks, the pace is quite accelerated. If you believe that you might need to miss a session you should contact the professor before the class begins to determine if this will be acceptable. Will there be housing available for students attending summer sessions? Matriculated undergraduate students have the option of living on-campus in the Triad Apartments while enrolled in summer sessions. Please visit Residence Life & University Housing to apply for summer housing and check-out our reduced housing rates this year! Is there a gym on-campus I will have access to? Yes. All students are required to have a Rowan Student ID card which enables access to all campus facilities and services. Please visit the Rec Center for membership description and fees. The Rec Center is open seven days a week and is one of the finest facilities in the state for fitness programs, recreational activities, and instructional classes. Where is the Registrar’s Office? The Office of the Registrar is located in Savitz Hall on the first floor. You can contact the Registrar’s Office at 856-256-4350 or email registrar@rowan.edu. The Bursar’s Office is located in Savitz Hall on the first floor, and they can be reached at 856-256-4150 or email bursar@rowan.edu. The Financial Aid Office is also located in Savitz Hall on the first floor. Their contact information is 856-256-4250 or email financialaid@rowan.edu. What happens if the course I have selected is closed? If the course you are interested in is closed, we suggest you search for another course that is of similar interest. However, if you do need to enroll in a closed course, you must process a Professor’s Request to Override a Closed Course form during any registration period. Overrides must be processed in the Office of the Registrar during regular office hours. Are there any restrictions on the courses I may take? It is the student’s responsibility to meet required prerequisites for each registered course. Students not meeting specific prerequisites will not be permitted to enroll in the course. All restrictions are listed in the Section Tally. Are there a maximum number of credits I can take in the summer? Yes. Matriculated undergraduate students can enroll in a maximum of 18 semester hours. Matriculated graduate students may enroll in a maximum of 15 semester hours. Non-matriculated undergraduate students may take no more than 11.5 semester hours. Non-matriculated graduate students are not permitted to accumulate more than a total of 9 graduate credits prior to formal acceptance into a graduate degree program. Those seeking certifications may register for no more than 6 credits prior to formal acceptance. What is the difference between a summer course and a CPCE course? Summer courses and CPCE courses are both Rowan courses. However, a CPCE course is easily identifiable by a letter that is included after every course section number. CPCE courses meet one or more of the following criteria:
