Entering Freshman Students

Welcome to Rowan University!  We are excited that you have made the choice to join the Rowan University community.  Did you know that you are not restricted to starting your college career in the fall?  Many incoming freshman elect to take courses in the summer for several reasons:

  • The chance to become acclimated to college level work while having a lighter course load.
  • Potentially smaller class sizes
  • The opportunity to get a head start on prerequisites and degree requirements
  • The prospect of finishing your degree in fewer than four years

Advising

  • Early academic advising for students who are not sure of what to major in.  The Center for Academic Planning (CAP Center) offers a comprehensive range of services for those students who have yet to declare a major.  Please visit the CAP Center at:  http://www.rowan.edu/studentaffairs/cap/
  • It is recommended that all incoming freshman meet with an advisor before enrolling in a summer session course.

Classes to take

Some recommended courses for Summer include:

Get Activated

  • Any incoming freshman who registers for a summer course will be considered a non-matriculated student.
  • Individuals who wish to enroll in an undergraduate course for the Summer 2008 Program and have never attended Rowan University (non-matriculated), must contact the Office of the Registrar at 856-256-4360 in order to be activated in the Student Records System.
  • Once activated, you are then given a 9-digit Rowan ID and password.  You must be a part of the Student Records System before you can register.
  • Non-matriculated students may take a maximum of 11.5 credits.

Register Online

To register online you will need three items:

  • Your Rowan ID # (This is obtained through “activation” or through official admission to Rowan in which case it would be included in your admit letter.)
  • Your password
  • The CRN #(s) for the course(s) for which you want to register

Students register online through the Rowan University Banner Student Self-Service Page. You may register from any networked computer from 7AM to 11PM any day.

Orientation

Orientation is another moment for you to begin to discuss taking courses this summer.  When you attend Orientation during one of the three sessions offered in June, you will be given your fall class schedule and the opportunity to meet with your advisor during the advising sessions on Day 2.  At this time, you can explain that you are interested in taking a summer course(s) starting as soon as possible and ask for assistance in selecting the appropriate course(s).  If you are unable to attend orientation or would like to register for a course that starts before orientation, please contact the Coordinator of Summer Programs at 856-256-5130.  Later, if you need to change your fall schedule, you will be able to perform a schedule adjustment to add or drop courses via the web.  To find out more information about orientation, visit the Freshman Orientation page.
