The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Rowan University welcomes your interest in our Biochemistry Program. The use of chemistry and other molecular tools to provide an understanding of biological processes have been the driving force for this program. The department is strongly committed to excellence in teaching and research while supporting innovative and novel approaches to learning involving faculty, undergraduate and graduate students.

Our emphasis on research is intimately coupled to our educational programs. Research in biochemistry is strongly dependent on state-of-the-art instrumentation and computers in our newly finished science building. The biochemistry suite provides an excellent facility to perform modern biochemical experiments. We have faculty whose research interests cover a broad range of modern topics in biochemical, bioanalytical, biomedical, biophysical, bioinorganic, bioorganic and biomaterial chemistry. We ensure a firm grounding in fundamental concepts and foster the ability to do new work that is creative, carefully executed, and important. In addition, students are introduced to the basics of biochemical reasoning and to the arsenal of experimental and theoretical techniques that are used to solve modern biochemical problems. The program's seminar course provides an opportunity to delve into the scientific literature and to gain the ability to make cogent oral presentations.

The Chemistry & Biochemistry department has a strong tradition of excellence in undergraduate chemistry teaching programs.  The Rowan Biochemistry program has the good fortune to be situated in a chemically and bio-chemically populated industrial tri-state area. Our location provides unique opportunities for both industrial internships and future employment.
