Tom Osler is professor of mathematics at Rowan University. He received his Ph. D. from the Courant Institute at New York University in 1970 and is the author of 143 mathematical papers. In addition to teaching university mathematics for the past 53 years, Tom has a passion for long distance running.  He has been competing for the past 60 consecutive years. Included in his over 2400 races are wins in three national championships in the late sixties at distances from 25 kilometers to 50 miles. Best running times are: 6 Miles track 30:30 in 1965 and 1967; 10 Miles track 52:40 in 1966; Marathon 2:29:02 at Boston (18th) in 1967; 50 Miles track 5:49:14 in 1975; 100 Miles track in 16:11:15 in 1978. He is the author of two running books and a member of the Road Runner’s Club of America Hall of Fame.

·         2008: The Gary Hunter Mentoring Award presented by the American Federation of Teacher.

·         2009: The Editorial Excellence Award from the journal “Mathematics and Computer Education”.

·         2009:  The Mathematical Association of America, New Jersey Section, Distinguished Teacher of Mathematics Award.

·         Oslerfest: April 16-17, 2010 a Mathematical Conference at Rowan University.

·         Featured speakers include:

·         George Andrews from Penn State University is President of the American Mathematical Society, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a recognized expert in number theory.

·         Richard Askey, Professor Emeritus from the University of Wisconsin is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and recognized the world over for his work in special functions.

·         Bruce Berndt from the University of Illinois is the world’s leading  exponent of the works of the great Indian mathematician Ramanujan. He and his research students have clarified the Ramanujan’s obscure notebooks in numerous books and publications.
