Minor in Psychology

The psychology department at Rowan University offers a 21 credit hour minor in psychology. This program is designed for students desiring a substantial background in psychology while majoring in another field. The minor allows students the flexibility to choose courses that will further their career goals. Courses should be selected in consultation with your major academic advisor or career goals.

I. Foundation Course (3 s.h.)

  • Essentials of Psychology (prerequisite for most Psychology courses)

II. Upper Level Courses (6 s.h.)

  • Students who minor in psychology must take at least two upper-level psychology courses

    • Psych of Racism and Ethnocentrism
    • Psych and Law
    • Behavioral Assessment and Measurement
    • Applied Behavior Analysis

    • Psych of Human Sexuality
    • Tests and Measures
    • Developmental Psychopathology
    • Industrial/Organizational Psychology
  • 400 Level Courses
    • Advanced Research [Prerequisites- Statistics in Psychology and College Comp II]
    • Seminar in Psychology (topics vary)
    • History and Systems
    • Psych of Conflict and Conflict Resolution
  • The following are considered upper level, but are limited in number and are not courses in the traditional sense.
    • Independent Study (Consent of faculty researcher only)
    • Field Experience (Consent of Director of Field Experience only)

III. Elective Courses (12 s.h.)

  • Any other psychology courses, at any level, will satisfy this requirement

Of these courses, no more than 6 credit hours may be transferred from another institution. Students should consult the Department of Psychology to address questions about any transfer courses. The above list is intended to provide a guide to show the levels of currently-offered courses. Students who have completed other courses in the Psychology Department which are no longer offered can still apply them to the minor, pending review by the Department of Psychology. Some courses offered have prerequisites or other restrictions, and may not be offered regularly.
