Amazon or Bust for Two Grads!
For recent grads, it might be a jungle out there job hunting, but two Rowan alums found their way straight to the Amazon—in Seattle, Washington, that is! This summer Remo Cocco ('12) and Dan Urbano ('12) relocated to the company's headquarters to proudly begin their new careers as software development engineers for the Fortune 100 company.
"The Computer Science department had a lot to do with my success," said Cocco, of Cherry Hill. Cocco credits Rowan for providing him the opportunity to do research and publish his works in the field of computer networks that lead him to this position. The research opportunity with Dr. Vasil Hnatyshin that eventually involved into his Master's thesis "was invaluable during the interview process," said Cocco. "There is no doubt in my mind that it will prove to be equally valuable in the real world."
Former Barrington resident Urbano never dreamed of working for such a well-known, successful company like Amazon, let alone at age 23. "I gained two years' experience working on three to four real-world projects through a collaboration with Rowan and a defense-based software and systems engineering firm," said Urbano. Like Cocco, Urbano also recognizes that his graduate studies at Rowan's Computer Science department provided him advanced knowledge of the entire field. "And it turned out to be extremely relevant during my interview process as well."
Hard part? Moving out west. Best part? Beginning their new professions. And they proudly admit to feeling quite happy about that.
