Member Dispositions

1. Identify common needs and purposes

Allows members of a learning community to discover their commonalities and differences leading to better understanding of others

2. See peers as colleagues

Encourages members to perceive others as possessing valuable resources of experience, skill, and/or knowledge which complements and increases their own potential

3. Seek self and group actualization

Promotes members to welcome problems that are challenging and will expand their capacities

4. Recognize other groups as similar

The realization that other groups could have similar, positive relationships as those experienced in the learning community

5. Reflect on past actions

Involves observing, thinking and talking about the past to determine whether intentions had the desired effect

6. Help and be helped

Invites learning community members to help one another while placing no stigma on being helped

7. Celebrate accomplishments

Allows the learning community to develop an historical memory to provide a sense of identity with the class and/or school
