ECDC Academic Calendar

Student Schedule
The Rowan University Early Childhood Demonstration Center serves children fifty-one weeks a year. The Center also provides a summer enrichment program during the months of June through August to accommodate the needs of working parents and students enrolled in summer classes.

School Schedule
The Early Childhood Demonstration Center school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. ECDC follows the University’s academic calendar. The following is a sample of the daily schedule:

7:30-8:30 Table Top/Free Choice Activities
School Program
8:30-9:00 Breakfast
9:00-9:20 Group Meeting (message, weather, days of week, who’s here today, tour labs, thematic vocabulary, music & movement activity, introduction to centers i.e. planning)
9:20-10:20 Learning Centers I (choice time) Small Group Instruction in mathematics and language arts literacy should take place daily during this period of time.
10:20-10:35 Snack
10:35-10:55 Group Time (i.e. music and movement activity, poetry, read aloud)
10:55-11:40
Outdoor Gross Motor Play
11:40-12:00 Read Aloud (read and discuss a storybook. Use props to help children retell stories, periodic content related literature)
12:00-12:40 Lunch
12:40-1:40 Rest Time
1:40-2:40 Learning Centers II (choice time) Small Group Instruction in mathematics and language arts literacy should take place daily during this period of time.
2:40-3:00 Group Time (child planning and child reflections of learning, i.e. inviting children to share what they did in centers, lead music and movement activity, read aloud)

3:00-3:45 Outdoor Gross Motor Play
3:45-4:05 Snack
4:05-4:25 Group Time (i.e. read aloud)
4:25-5:30 Free Play and Small Groups (Table top activities, center activities, computers, library, toys and games.)
