About Robin Haskell McBee, Ph.D.
My original training and teaching experience were at the elementary level, though I also have experience teaching in arts-based high school equivalency programs. Prior to coming to Rowan University in 1996, I spent 9 years running statewide K-12 law and civic-related education programs in Rhode Island and Virginia. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Alternative Education from the University Without Walls/Providence (RI) and a Master's Degree in Education from Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a specialization in Integrated Arts in Education. My Ph.D. in Urban Education was completed at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, where my dissertation focused on teacher perspectives on interdisciplinary education. I currently teach in the undergraduate Elementary Education Program at Rowan, the Master of Science in Teaching Program, and the Master of Education in Teacher Leadership program, which I also coordinate. My research and scholarly expertise focus on creating caring communities, interdisciplinary instruction, multicultural education, urban education, and social studies education and I have published on my work in these areas. My most recent publication is a chapter I co-authored with Dr. Patrick Westcott in Imagining A Renaissance in Teacher Education; it is entitled "Daring to Care: Adding Caring to Our Vision of Teacher Education" and is based on my research in this area.
