About Monika Williams Shealey, Ph.D.
Dr. Monika Williams Shealey has served as the Dean of the College of Education since 2013. Dr. Shealey is active in the educational research and teacher education professional communities. Dr. Williams Shealey serves as a reviewer for the Council of the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, member of the Membership and Capacity Building Committee of the American Association for Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), and a member-at-large of the AACTE Board of Directors. Further, Dr. Williams Shealey’s research interests are framed by her preparation as an urban special educator. She received a BS in Specific Learning Disabilities and MA in Varying Exceptionalities from the University of South Florida, EdS in Reading and Learning Disabilities from the University of Miami, and a PhD in Education from the University of Central Florida. Her work examines the intersection of urban and special education, the experiences of traditionally marginalized groups in special education, and teacher education leadership. Dr. Williams Shealey serves on the editorial review boards of Remedial and Special Education, Teaching Exceptional Children, and the Journal of Educational Research. Dr. Williams Shealey is also co-editor of the Multiple Voices of Ethnically Diverse Exceptional Learners Journal, a division journal of the Council for Exceptional Children.
