Lighting the ‘Torch of Knowledge’: Rowan to dedicate Education Hall
(April 21, 2006) In a ceremony that will pay tribute to the University’s past and illuminate its future, Rowan University will officially dedicate Education Hall, its new, $28.5 million home for the College of Education, on Wednesday, April 26, at 11 a.m.

Rowan’s College of Education receives grant to assist student teachers and their mentors
(February 21, 2006) Rowan University’s Education Institute, the outreach arm of the College of Education, will use a $683,408 federal grant to help student teachers and mentor teachers from three South Jersey school districts enhance their teaching skills.

Education Receives $250K Teacher Recruitment Grant
(September 29, 2005) The Education Institute of Rowan University has
received a $250,000 grant to continue its successful “pre-service” training
project within the State’s Alternate Route Teacher Preparation Program.
The funding is the second consecutive grant awarded to the Institute to provide
classroom learning and field-based observation for prospective teachers.

Prof. Wins Innovative Teaching Award

John Spencer, assistant professor of secondary education/foundations
of education, has been named the inaugural winner
of Rowan University’s Junior Faculty Innovative Teaching Award. The
$250 cash award is reserved for junior faculty members who demonstrate
innovative and meaningful teaching that promotes student learning.

Offer Insight on Education Topics

school year is about to begin in most New Jersey school systems and Rowan
University education professors are ready to share their expertise on a wide
variety of education-related topics, including the value of music education
programs, the pros and cons of classroom computer use and the effectiveness

N.J. Education Commissioner to Speak at Rowan University Principals Summer
Institute
(July 19, 2005) Dr. William L. Librera, Commissioner of the New
Jersey Department of Education, will discuss “Quality Teaching and Learning” on
Wednesday, July 20, as part of the Seventh Annual Summer Institute for Principals
at Rowan
University. The presentation will begin at 8:45 a.m. in Rowan Hall on the
University’s Glassboro campus (U.S. Route 322 & Joseph Bowe Boulevard).

Rowan to Award Honorary Degrees at May 13 Graduation
(May 6, 2005) During commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 13, Rowan University
will issue honorary doctor of humanities degrees to the late William H. Myers
and to civic leaders and philanthropists Allen and Joan Bildner.
