Fall 2010-2011 Clinical Practice Candidates:

PDS Goals for 2010-2011

Preservice/Inservice: Clinical Candidates and their cooperating teachers meet biweekly during bag lunch sessions to discuss clinical experiences, update and check in with students on weekly assignments.  This year, Holly Glen will institute Brew U’s.  Clinical candidates will meet with Holly Glen staff for morning workshops that centers around a topic that is challenging for the students.  The first meeting will be on managing and organizing a classroom which the candidates have identified as a need.  Future workshops will include Understanding by Design, Differentiated instructions, and infusing technology in instruction.  Candidates will also observe the PDS university liaison model mini-lessons in teachers’ classroom.  The latter is a goal that inservice teachers identified.  This year the topic is using mentor text to teaching writing.  Throughout the year the liaison will demonstrate reading and writing lessons.  Collaborating with the technology teacher, the liaison will demonstrate how to implement lessons using technology equipment (smart board, student program software, Doc cameras, etc.).

Research/Student Achievement: The university will present results from demo lesson and student writing samples at the 2010 NCTE conference.  A proposal has been submitted to present the work from the new Rowan University PDS Network meetings at the 2011 National PDS conference.  Student work samples and the liaison’s expertise in literacy instruction will be presented at the 2011 8th International Literacy Conference in Guatemala City, Guatemala.  All the research presentations are meant to showcase student achievement at the Holly Glen Elementary Public School.  In addition, drafts of manuscripts have been or will be written about using a PDS self-study to establish standards and goals as well as ways to infuse technology into reading and writing instruction.
