M.A. in Higher Education – Administration Track
Program Description
The administration track is intended to serve individuals employed in a higher education setting who wish to increase their knowledge and skills as well as those who seek an entry level position in a two year or four year college or university. Full-time students in the administration track may complete the program in two years, excluding summers, by following a highly sequenced pattern of course enrollments. Part-time students may also enroll in the administration track and will be advised regarding the sequencing of courses in order to complete the program in four years or less.
Areas of Core Proficiency
At the conclusion of the M.A. in Higher Education program, students should be able to:
- Understand the history of higher education in America
- Understand issues attendant to the organization, administration, and governance of higher education
- Understand the tenets of strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation in higher education
- Effectively communicate (oral and written)
- Engage in reflective practice
- Use appropriate research strategies in the investigation of educational problems in higher education
- Understand and manage change
- Understand legal and ethical issues in higher education
- Use and implement technology in higher education
- Understand theory and practices for serving diverse students in the collegiate environment
- How to design, plan, and implement student service programs in higher education
- Demonstrate commitment to tolerance, diversity, and social justice
- Understand emergent issues in higher education
