College of Education - Department of Health and Exercise Science

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Rowan University Department of Health and Exercise Science Web Page! Every member of the HES Department strives to remain on the cutting edge in our disciplines. We are also very active within our various fields. Our faculty and staff divide our time between teaching, scholarship, research and service, and many of our faculty are serving as, or have served as leaders in the field, in state, regional and national professional associations. Our faculty members give many presentations, workshops and conference papers in local, state, regional, national and even international venues. We have many published scholarly and research articles, and our productivity continues to increase annually. However, our first and foremost passion is teaching and learning, and our roles as leaders in our classrooms and in the greater learning communities of the College of Education and the University.

The three undergraduate specialization programs we offer (Athletic Training, Health Promotion & Fitness Management, and Health & Physical Education Teacher Certification) have been designed to better prepare future professionals for the employment and further study. While we strive to remain on the cutting edge of our professions, we always have the best interest of the student in mind. In order to accomplish this, we listen to what potential employers want in a professional as well as what the related professions and industries require for certification. We listen to our students also, and continually make program improvements based on their feedback. We want our students not just to do well, but to excel. You will find our academic programs are challenging, rigorous, relevant and well respected in the professional community, and taking place on the fields, in Esby Gym, and in Herman D. James Hall in high tech classrooms and 6 research labs.

Feel free to visit us and consider being a part of our educational adventure in the Department of Health and Exercise Science.
