The Exercise Science Research Laboratory is an integral part of the Department of Health and Exercise Science. Directors Dr. Edward Chaloupka and Dr. Gregory Biren are exercise physiologists who conduct an active program of research, publication and conference presentation on exercise physiology, rehabilitation and sports medicine.
Dr. Chaloupka is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and Dr. Biren is a Certified Exercise Specialist (American College of Sports Medicine) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (National Strength and Conditioning Association).
Areas of research involve primarily metabolic, cardiovascular, and muscle response to exercise as well as assessment of body composition and motion analysis. Students are encouraged to participate in ongoing research studies.
In addition, the laboratory is an active teaching laboratory for courses in exercise physiology, biomechanics, exercise prescription and health and wellness.
