Joy Xin, Ed.D.
Academic Advisor for CGCE
In compliance with New Jersey State Regulations for teacher licensure, the Language, Literacy, and Special Education Department offers a graduate endorsement program: Teacher of Students with Disabilities.
This program is designed for individuals who possess a standard instructional certificate, or possess/are eligible for CEAS and wish to obtain Teacher of Students with Disabilities certification in New Jersey. The purpose of the program is to provide advanced studies focusing on educational, psychological and sociological needs of children and youth with disabilities. Each course in the program builds on the earlier knowledge and skills gained in the candidates’ initial certification programs.
The coursework and related field experiences are designed to foster an understanding of students with special learning needs, combined with pedagogical skills to accommodate these needs and provide appropriate curriculum modifications when necessary. Upon completing the program, candidates will be recommended for certification through the College’s certification office. Candidates who want to pursue a master’s degree may continue to complete 18 credit hours more and must apply through the College of Graduate and Continuing Education (CGCE).
