College of Education - M.A. in School and Public Librarianship

Medallion Awards

According to Judy Holmes, Head of Reference, Campbell Library, former Chairperson of the Medallion Awards Committee, and a Medallion honoree herself,

Each year Medallion Awards, most of which are related to curriculum, are presented to a number of students for excellence in a specific field.

The awarding of a Medallion is a wonderful experience for students and honors not only the recipient, but the sponsoring department, organization or individual as well. The awarding of many of these medallions is tradition and some are tradition in the making. It is truly a worthwhile endeavor which recognizes the achievement of our students and connects us with their families and friends.

Students in the Program in School and Public Librarianship are honored through the selection of two medallion winners annually. Dr. Christy Faison, Associate Provost and former faculty member in the Program, honors the contributions of Rinehart Potts, former advisor to the Program, by giving the Rinehart S. Potts Award for Excellence in Public Librarianship. The Friends of the Campbell Library at Rowan University give the Charles and Nancy Boltz Excellence in School Librarianship Award in memory of Mrs. Boltz, a long-time Library employee, and Mr. Boltz, professor and head of the library education program for many years.
