Graduation/Completion Requirements and Certification Process

Students may graduate and apply for certification at three times during the academic year. Graduation application forms and due dates are available at the Registrar’s Office. Certification is handled by Dr. Patricia Alexy-Stoll, Certification Specialist, in the Office of the Dean of the College of Education. Click here for the certification Website where you can download the application form and read the FAQ listing due dates for certification, which differ from graduation application due dates. Certification applications must be notarized. The certification Website includes a list of notaries on campus.

Completion Requirements for the Associate Educational Media Specialist Certification:

Students who have completed the eight required courses (23-24 credits) with a grade point average of 3.0 or better should submit notarized certification forms and fees to the certification specialist in the College of Education at the appropriate times.

Graduation and Certification Requirements for Master's Degree Programs:

Students will demonstrate that they have completed the program and merit the degree of Master of Arts in School and Public Librarianship through:

  1. Completion of all courses with a grade point average of 3.0
    or better.
  2. Presentation of an acceptable professional portfolio that
    documents their work in all courses and includes a detailed
    professional development plan.
  3. Completion of a satisfactory master's thesis, including the
    final copies meeting all Graduate School and Campbell
    Library requirements.
  4. Properly filled out graduation forms and fees submitted to
    the Registrar's Office in a timely manner.

Students applying for certification as School Library Media Specialist must submit notarized certification forms and fees to Dr. Pat Alexy-Stoll in a timely manner. Please click here for forms and information.

Students applying for the Professional Librarian certification must submit an application and an official transcript to the Registrar’s Office at Thomas Edison State College. Click here for information and forms.
