The Special Educational Services / Instruction Department offers two tracks for the
Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement at the Post-Baccalaureate level. The
first is the Blended Track, open to students currently enrolled in one of
the College of Education’s initial teacher endorsement programs. The second is the
Alternate Route Track, open to individuals who currently hold a B.A. or
B.S. degree, with a minimum GPA of 2.75. With the exception of courses that meet the “or equivalent” criteria, no transfer credits will be accepted.
Eligibility for CE for Teacher of Students with Disabilities:
In order to be eligible for a CE for Teacher of Students with Disabilities, current state
regulations require that candidates be “officially enrolled in a state approved endorsement program.” This means that you must be matriculated into an approved program before the state will issue the CE.
If you do not already possess a current instructional certificate, or a CE (Certificate of Eligibility) or CEAS (Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing), in an initial endorsement area, you can still apply for the Alternate Route track in our Post-Baccalaureate Endorsement Program. Once matriculated into the program, you may apply for a CE as Teacher of Students with Disabilities. This will enable you to apply for a special education teaching position. However, upon hire, you will be placed in an initial endorsement Alternate Route Program by the state (upon notification of your hire to the state by your employer). You can, then, complete the state alternate route requirements for an initial endorsement concurrent with completion of the Post-
Baccalaureate requirements for endorsement as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities.
Options and requirements will be reviewed during your initial meeting with the Program Advisor or Program Coordinator.
