The newly revised Master of Science in Teaching (M.S.T.) program offers the unique opportunity for students to pursue an initial New Jersey teaching certificate and a Master’s degree simultaneously. This program is designed to prepare candidates who meet appropriate Bachelors degree and course work requirements for k-5 (Elementary) initial teacher certification.
Applicants may need additional pre-requisite courses in order to meet certification requirements. The pre-requisite courses needed for each specialization area are outlined in the attached Overview and Admissions forms.
Please contact the program advisor with additional questions. We highly recommend that you meet with the program advisor for a transcript review, to assure that you have taken all necessary pre-requisite courses for certification.
The M.S.T. program is offered as a full-time program only. Students complete the program in 13 months with 4 courses the first summer (2 sessions), two academic semesters of full-time courses, and one course during the second summer. Click here for the current program courses requirements. Two full-time, semester-long clinical internship placements in public schools are also required. The program culminates with an action research thesis project. Throughout the program, students are grouped together in a cohort. The MST program has a limited enrollment of approximately 25 students per year.
The deadline for admission is February 15, 2010. The program begins once per year in mid May (Summer Session 1).
Students with a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.75, and who have taken all courses listed on the Overview & Admissions form for their teaching area are welcome to apply.
